1st Due Barn Fire Goes 2 Alarms

Saturday, May 13, 2017 10:12  Just after 10 AM Saturday morning Company 15 along with mutual aid were alerted for a barn fire in the 100 block of Valley View Rd in Ephrata Township.  Multiple calls were reporting of a pig barn on fire in the area.  Deputy 15 (K. Hackman) arrived on scene shortly after finding a 50' x 200' barn with heavy fire and smoke showing and immediately requested the 2nd alarm be dispatched.  Tankers 3 (Martindale) and 17-3 (Stevens) arrived and began fire attack as Eng 15-1 laid a supply line back the lane.  Truck 17 (Reamstown) setup on the A/B corner and began master stream operations.  Units from 18 different area departments responded along with 11 tankers due to no hydrants in the areas.  Crews worked for 3 hours to bring the fire under control, the structure was a total loss with some contents being saved.  The cause was determined to be accidental and no injuries to were reported during the incident.  Thanks to all the departments that assisted and to Eng 14-1 (Durlach-Mt Airy) for covering our first due while we were out.
